My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

All Christians—those who have been born again and have received the Lord Jesus as their Lord and Savior—are designed to hear His voice. Just as birds are born with an internal compass, and other animal species possess instinctive traits, children of God have the God-given ability to hear Him in their spirits.

The real question is not, “Can I hear God?” but rather, “Can I recognize His voice when He speaks?”

The best way to train yourself to recognize His voice is by meditating on His Word, filling your heart with Scripture, and acquiring the vocabulary, language, and thoughts of God’s Word. Without this foundation, the voice of God will often feel distant or difficult to discern.

Quiet yourself. Listen. Have a notepad ready.
If nothing seems to happen after 30 minutes to an hour, read the Word. Practice this regularly, and document even the thoughts that come to you.
