How Does the Bible Describe a Debased Mind?

For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.
Romans 1:26–27 (ESV)

Then in Romans 1:29–31, it continues:

“…being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”

A debased mind is a sign of spiritual separation from God. God never intended for us to live in such a state. We are called to have hearts that are pure, noble, and surrendered before Him.

How can you be separated from God now, and still expect to make heaven later?

Let this be your goal always: To walk with a clean heart and a renewed mind before the Lord.

Prayer

Oh Lord Jesus, give me a clean heart and take sin away from me.
Hide Your Word in my heart so that I will not sin against You.
Teach me Your ways, for I surrender my heart and mind to You.
Empower me to live for You, that Your name may be honored in my life.
Amen!
