The Assurance of Salvation

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3: 16 NKJV

One of the clear guarantees we have from Scripture is that when we truly believe in Jesus as our Savior and acknowledge Him as our Lord, we are saved from the judgment of sin, and our names are written in the Book of Life.

How Can You Be Sure of Your Salvation?

Here’s the key question:

Is Jesus truly your LORD?

The word Lord means Master, Ruler, or One in authority—someone whose instructions we obey. The Word of God reveals to us the lifestyle, commands, and expectations of the Lord Jesus. He said: “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” —John 14:15 (NKJV)

It’s not enough to confess our sins and pray the sinner’s prayer. After doing so, we must live with the daily awareness that Jesus is now Lord over our lives, and begin to obey His commandments.

But how can you follow His commandments if you don’t regularly read and meditate on the Word of God?

Prayer for Salvation

Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner. Please forgive my sins.
I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and that You were raised for my justification—to make me righteous.
I confess that You are my Savior and Lord. Please wash away all my sins, make me a new creation, and write my name in the Book of Life.
From today, I choose to follow You as my Lord. Amen!
