Faith

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17 NKJV

The Bible speaks of little faith, weak faith, and strong faith—and sheds light on the characteristics of each. Many times, we overlook our responses to life’s challenges and fail to discern whether our faith is truly at work. As we approach the end of this journey, it’s crucial that we not only hear God, but also apply our faith.

Let’s begin with little faith—the kind that does not produce results.

Jesus rebuked His disciples four times in the book of Matthew for having little faith. Take some time to read and reflect on these passages:

  • Matthew 6:30 — “If God so clothes the grass of the field… will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?”
  • Matthew 8:26 — “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?”
  • Matthew 14:31 — “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
  • Matthew 16:8 — “O you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves because you have brought no bread?”

These stories show that little faith is characterized by:

  • Fear
  • Doubt
  • Worry
  • Forgetting God’s past faithfulness and power

Our theme verse declares, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” Let us hear the Word, meditate on it, and intentionally address every area where little faith may be operating.
